Prepare the Squid
In a bowl, combine the cleaned squid rings with buttermilk. Let them soak for about 30 minutes.

Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Coat the Squid
Remove the squid from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture until well coated.

Fry the Squid
Carefully drop the coated squid rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Add Tomatoes and Spices
Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan. Stir well.

Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Garnish
Once the sauce is done, remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley.
