Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle fruit and herbs

In a cocktail shaker or mixing glass, combine the quartered strawberries, cucumber slices, and 4 of the mint leaves. Gently muddle 6–8 times until the strawberries release color and juice and the cucumber and mint are fragrant but not pulverized. You want aromatic release, not a puree.

  2. 2

    Add spirits and citrus

Add the vodka, orgeat, and fresh lemon juice to the shaker. If you prefer slightly sweeter drink, add the optional 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Shake with ice

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and nicely diluted.

  4. 4

    Double-strain into glass

Place a fine mesh strainer over a chilled coupe or rocks glass (if serving on the rocks, add fresh ice to the glass first). Double-strain the cocktail to remove seeds and cucumber bits, pouring the liquid into the prepared glass.

  5. 5

    Optional top and garnish

If you prefer a lighter, slightly fizzy drink, top with 1 oz club soda. Slap the remaining 2 mint leaves between your palms to release aroma and use them as a garnish along with a strawberry slice on the rim.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately. Encourage the drinker to stir lightly if soda was added to integrate flavors.
