Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Usually, this takes about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery to the pan. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 6

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  4. 7

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the pan. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the meat is browned and no longer pink.

  5. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Stir well to combine.

  6. 9

    Season the Sauce

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the sauce. Stir to incorporate all flavors.

  7. 10

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

  8. 11

    Serve

Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti, and garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
