Method
Chicken Preparation
- 1
Prepare Chicken
Start by flattening the chicken breasts to an even thickness for consistent cooking. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- 2
Breading Process
Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with buttermilk, one with a mixture of flour and cornstarch, and the last for beaten egg. Dip the chicken in buttermilk, then coat in the flour-cornstarch mixture, followed by the egg, and finally back into the flour mixture.
- 3
Fry Chicken
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded chicken and fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Hot Honey Sauce Preparation
- 4
Make the Sauce
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine honey, red pepper flakes, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until heated through and the ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
Basil Mayo Preparation
- 5
Prepare Basil Mayo
In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped fresh basil, and lemon juice. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning with salt if necessary.
Sandwich Assembly
- 6
Assemble Sandwich
Slice the brioche buns in half. Spread a generous amount of basil mayo on the bottom half of each bun. Layer with lettuce, a slice of tomato, the fried chicken, and drizzle with hot honey sauce. Top with the other half of the bun.
