Method

Cornbread Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and place a cast-iron skillet inside to heat up.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and maple syrup until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cornbread

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven. Add a tablespoon of butter to the skillet, swirling it around to coat the bottom. Pour the cornbread batter into the skillet and spread it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Maple Butter Preparation

  1. 6

    Make Maple Butter

While the cornbread is baking, prepare the maple butter by mixing the softened unsalted butter and maple syrup in a small bowl until well blended and creamy.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Once the cornbread is baked, allow it to cool for a few minutes. Cut into wedges and serve warm with the maple butter on the side.
