Directions

  1. 1

    Prep the Steak

Remove the NY Strip steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps the steak cook more evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Press the seasonings into the meat.

  3. 3

    Heat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until it is very hot.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the steak in the hot pan and sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it. Flip the steak and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting time for desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Add Butter and Herbs

During the last minute of cooking, add butter and fresh rosemary to the pan. Spoon the melted butter over the steak for extra flavor.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a plate for about 5-10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  7. 7

    Serve

Slice against the grain and serve your perfectly cooked NY Strip steak.
