Fried Shrimp

Housemade Cocktail Sauce

Method

Fried Shrimp

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Rinse the peeled and deveined shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Housemade Cocktail Sauce

  1. 8

    Mix the Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well blended.

  2. 9

    Season to Taste

Add salt and black pepper to taste, adjusting to your preferred level of seasoning.

  3. 10

    Chill the Sauce

Cover the cocktail sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
