Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and Grand Marnier until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Icing Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Icing

In a medium bowl, beat the unsweetened cocoa powder and softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, mixing until well combined. Add vanilla extract and mix until creamy.

Whipped Cream Preparation

  1. 8

    Whip the Cream

In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. You can add a tablespoon of sugar for sweetness if desired.

Assemble the Cake

  1. 9

    Layer the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of icing on top.

  2. 10

    Add Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining icing.

  3. 11

    Garnish with Morsels

Sprinkle chocolate morsels on top of the frosted cake for decoration.

  4. 12

    Serve with Whipped Cream

Serve slices of the cake with a dollop of fresh whipped cream on the side.
