Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes, then slice them thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) using a mandoline or a sharp knife.

  3. 3

    Prepare Garlic

    Mince the garlic cloves finely.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic and Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Cream and Spices

Stir in the heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Bring to a simmer, then remove from heat.

  3. 6

    Layer Potatoes

In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese and half of the parmesan cheese over the cream mixture.

  5. 8

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, cheddar cheese, and parmesan cheese.

Baking

  1. 9

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

  2. 10

    Remove Foil and Brown

After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.

  3. 11

    Garnish

Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
