Method

Prepare Ice Cream

  1. 1

    Scoop Ice Cream

Using an ice cream scoop, form 8 balls of vanilla ice cream and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or until the ice cream balls are very firm.

Prepare Batter

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.

  2. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Whisk until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.

Prepare Coating

  1. 4

    Mix Coating

In a separate bowl, combine the crushed cornflakes and cinnamon. Mix well to distribute the cinnamon evenly throughout the cornflakes.

Fry Ice Cream

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature.

  2. 6

    Coat Ice Cream Balls

Take the ice cream balls out of the freezer. Dip each ball into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated, and then roll it in the cornflake mixture until well covered.

  3. 7

    Fry Ice Cream

Carefully place the coated ice cream balls into the hot oil, frying for about 10-15 seconds, or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pot; fry in batches if necessary.

  4. 8

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried ice cream balls from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve immediately with chocolate or caramel sauce if desired.
