For the Mozzarella Sticks
For the Marinara Sauce
Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
- 2
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Take each mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it in the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the seasoned bread crumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat this process for all mozzarella sticks.
- 3
Chill the Coated Sticks
Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and chill in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. This helps the coating adhere better during frying.
- 4
Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce
- 5
Cook the Marinara
In a saucepan over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and sugar. Stir to combine.
- 6
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, add in fresh chopped basil right before serving for added flavor.
