Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Spaghetti

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once the spaghetti is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti in a colander.

Marina Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, fresh basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

  5. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

  6. 8

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese to taste.
