Pita and Toppings

Tzatziki Sauce

Method

Prepare the Gyros Meat

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meat

Shape the mixture into flat patties or use a skewer to form kebabs.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meat

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties or kebabs for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through.

Make Tzatziki Sauce

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well until smooth.

  2. 5

    Chill

Refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assemble the Gyros Sandwich

  1. 6

    Prepare Pita

Warm the pita bread slightly in a dry skillet or microwave to make it pliable.

  2. 7

    Fill the Pita

Place some of the cooked gyros meat in the center of each pita. Top with diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, crumbled feta cheese, and a generous spoonful of tzatziki sauce.

  3. 8

    Serve

Fold the pita in half and serve immediately, garnished with additional tzatziki if desired.
