Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, mixing well until fully combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water into the batter until smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, cream the unsalted butter until smooth and fluffy.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa Powder

Gradually add the cocoa powder to the creamed butter, mixing until well incorporated.

  3. 10

    Add Sugar and Milk

Alternately add the powdered sugar and whole milk to the mixture, mixing until you reach the desired spreadable consistency.

  4. 11

    Finish with Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.

  5. 12

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
