Method
Pork Preparation
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub the mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- 2
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Add the apple cider vinegar and water. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
BBQ Sauce Preparation
- 3
Prepare the BBQ Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, black pepper, smoked paprika, and salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 4
Mix Sauce with Pork
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and pour the BBQ sauce over it. Stir well to combine and let it cook on low for another 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Sandwich Assembly

Assemble the Sandwiches
Toast the burger buns if desired. Place a generous amount of pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw if using, then cover with the top half of the bun.
