Preparation
- 1
Cook the Meat
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, shredded chicken, or chorizo sausage until fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat if using beef or chorizo.
- 2
Prepare the Beans
In a small saucepan, heat the canned black beans and pinto beans over low heat until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- 3
Cook the Rice
If you have not cooked the rice yet, follow package instructions for cooking. Typically, this involves rinsing the rice, bringing water to a boil, adding the rice, covering, and simmering until tender.
Assembly
- 4
Lay Out the Tortilla
Place a large flour tortilla flat on a clean surface or plate.
- 5
Add the Base
Spoon about 1/2 cup of cooked rice onto the center of the tortilla, followed by 1/4 cup each of black beans and pinto beans.
- 6
Add the Meat
Top the beans and rice with your choice of the cooked meat (about 1/4 pound).
- 7
Add Toppings
Sprinkle 1/4 cup of shredded cheese over the meat, followed by 1/4 cup of chopped lettuce, and a dollop of sour cream. Add salsa and jalapeños to taste.
- 8
Wrap the Burrito
Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll from the bottom up to enclose all ingredients. Ensure it is tightly wrapped.
Serving
- 9
Slice and Serve
Cut the burrito in half if desired and serve immediately with additional salsa on the side.
