Fried Gulf Shrimp

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs and buttermilk.

  2. 2

    Coat the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the egg and buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the flour-cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through, turning them as necessary.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove the shrimp from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with cocktail sauce and tartar sauce on the side.
