Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork Shoulder

Cut the pork shoulder into 2-inch pieces and season with salt and black pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, and brown the pork pieces on all sides.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

Remove the browned pork from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add chopped onion, diced green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in chopped tomatoes, cumin, oregano, and paprika to the skillet. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the tomatoes start to break down.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Return the browned pork to the skillet. Pour in the chicken broth and lime juice, stirring well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  2. 5

    Simmer

Cover the skillet and let it simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until the pork is tender and easily shredded.

Serving

  1. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Once the pork is tender, remove from heat. Shred the pork using two forks and mix it into the sauce. Serve warm, garnished with chopped fresh cilantro and sliced avocado.
