Method
Preparation of French Toast
- 1
Make the Egg Mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- 2
Soak the Bread
Dip each slice of thick bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are fully coated. Allow the bread to soak for about 30 seconds on each side.
- 3
Cook the French Toast
In a skillet or frying pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the soaked slices of bread in the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- 4
Repeat with Remaining Bread
Add another tablespoon of butter to the pan and repeat the soaking and cooking process for the second slice of bread.
Cooking the Protein
- 5
Cook the Bacon
In a separate pan, cook the bacon slices over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- 6
Cook the Sausage
If using sausage links, cook them in the same pan as the bacon or separately according to package instructions until browned and cooked through.
- 7
Heat the Ham
If using ham, place the slices in a skillet over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes on each side until heated through.
Serving
- 8
Plate the French Toast
Once the French toast is cooked, place it on a serving plate.
- 9
Add Protein
Top the French toast with your choice of cooked protein (bacon, sausage, ham) and a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
- 10
Serve Warm
Serve immediately while warm, optionally with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
