Brewing Process

1. Mashing

In a large pot, heat 10 liters of water to about 160°F (70°C). Add the malted barley and corn or rice to the water. Stir well and maintain the temperature for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2. Lautering

After mashing, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to separate the liquid (wort) from the solid grains. Collect the wort in a clean pot.

3. Boiling

Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add the hops and boil for 60 minutes. This will extract the flavors and bitterness from the hops.

4. Cooling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches about 70°F (21°C).

5. Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort into a fermentation vessel. Add the yeast and stir gently. Seal the vessel with an airlock and allow it to ferment in a dark, cool place for about 1-2 weeks.

6. Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, add sugar and a clarifying agent to the beer. Transfer the beer into clean bottles, leaving some space at the top. Cap the bottles and let them carbonate for another week.

7. Chilling and Serving

Chill the bottles in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. Pour carefully into a glass, leaving sediment behind, and enjoy your homemade Michelob!
