Method
For the Calamari
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to create a dry coating mixture.
- 2
Coat the Calamari
Take the cleaned and sliced calamari rings and dredge them in the flour mixture until evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 180°C (350°F).
- 4
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
For the Aioli
- 5
Prepare the Aioli
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
- 6
Serve
Serve the crispy fried calamari hot with the aioli on the side for dipping.
