Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Base

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then, add the diced tomatoes and cook for another 2 minutes.

  3. 3

    Simmer the Broth

Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Add the bay leaves, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 15 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Seafood

Stir in the shrimp and crabmeat. Cook for another 5-7 minutes or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.

  5. 5

    Finish with Filé Powder

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the filé powder. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

  6. 6

    Serve

Ladle the gumbo into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot with rice or crusty bread.
