Method
Preparation of Ham
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- 2
Prepare the Ham
Unwrap the Nueske's smoked ham and place it in a large roasting pan, cut side down.
- 3
Score the Ham
Using a sharp knife, score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern, making shallow cuts about 1 inch apart.
Making the Glaze
- 4
Combine Glaze Ingredients
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, and black pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well combined.
- 5
Simmer the Glaze
Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
Baking the Ham
- 6
Glaze the Ham
Brush the glaze generously over the scored surface of the ham, ensuring that it gets into the cuts for maximum flavor.
- 7
Bake the Ham
Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
- 8
- 9
Finish Baking
In the last 30 minutes of baking, remove the foil completely to allow the glaze to caramelize and form a nice crust.
Serving
- 10
Rest and Carve
Once the ham is done baking, let it rest for about 15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute.
- 11
Serve
Slice the ham and serve it warm, drizzled with any remaining glaze and pan juices.
