Method

Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine and Mix

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined (the batter will be thin).

  6. 6

    Bake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  1. 8

    Prepare Butter

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa Powder

Gradually add cocoa powder and mix until well incorporated.

  3. 10

    Add Sugar and Milk

Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, mixing well after each addition until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

  4. 11

    Finish with Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.

  5. 12

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
