Danish Pastry and Filling
Method
Preparation and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Warm the milk until it's lukewarm and stir in the melted butter. Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 2
Make the Cream Cheese Filling
In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- 3
Form the Danish
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Cut into squares (about 4x4 inches). Spoon a tablespoon of cream cheese filling and a few pieces of chopped strawberries into the center of each square. Fold the corners of the square toward the center to form a pocket and pinch to seal.
- 4
Prepare for Baking
Place the filled danishes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the danishes for a golden finish.
- 5
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
