Danish Pastry and Filling

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Prepare Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm (not boiling). Add to the dry ingredients along with eggs; mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead Dough

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Make Filling

In a separate bowl, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth and well combined.

  4. 4

    Assemble Danishes

Once dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle. Cut into squares, place a spoonful of the cream cheese filling in the center of each square, and fold the corners over to the center.

  5. 5

    Final Rise

Place the assembled danishes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  6. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  7. 7

    Bake

Brush the tops of the danishes with the egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Allow the danishes to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
