Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Flank Steak

In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, lime juice, cumin, black pepper, salt, and chili powder. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 2

    Add the Steak

Place the flank steak in the marinade, ensuring it is fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat. If you're using charcoal, make sure the coals are glowing red and covered with white ash.

  2. 4

    Remove the Steak from Marinade

Take the flank steak out of the marinade and let it sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before grilling.

  3. 5

    Grill the Steak

Place the flank steak on the hot grill. Grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until the internal temperature reaches 130-135°F (54-57°C).

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  5. 7

    Slice and Serve

Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips. Serve with chopped fresh cilantro and lime wedges on the side.
