Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into uniform sticks, about 1/4 inch thick to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a bowl of cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier fry.

  3. 3

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the water and pat the potatoes dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove any moisture.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried potato sticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  7. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika (if using) to taste. Toss gently to coat.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve the fries hot as a side dish or snack with your favorite dipping sauces.
