Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cool running water. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler and cut them into sticks, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and achieve a crispier fry.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This prevents splattering when frying.

  3. 5

    Fry Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of potato sticks to the hot oil. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Season immediately with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
