Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- 3
Cream Butter and Sugar
In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- 4
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
- 5
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Dulce de Leche Preparation
- 8
Prepare Dulce de Leche
To make dulce de leche, take the can of sweetened condensed milk, place it in a pot of simmering water (making sure the water covers the can completely), and let it cook for about 2-3 hours. Remove the can from the water and let it cool before opening.
Frosting Preparation
- 9
Make the Frosting
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until smooth. Then add the vanilla extract and dulce de leche, and mix until well combined.
Assembling the Cake
- 10
Layer the Cakes
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of dulce de leche over the top.
- 11
Add Second Layer
Place the second cake layer on top of the first layer. Use the frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.
- 12
Decorate
Drizzle additional dulce de leche over the top of the frosted cake for decoration. Optionally, you can sprinkle with nuts or chocolate shavings.
