Prepare the Burger Patty

Mix the Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Use your hands to mix until just combined; do not overwork the meat.

Form the Patties
Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty that is about 3/4 inch thick.

Prepare the Toppings

Slice the Vegetables
While the patties are cooking, slice the onion and tomato. Rinse and dry the lettuce leaves.

Toast the Buns
Optional: Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are golden brown.
Assemble the Burger

Build the Burger
Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each burger bun. Top with a few slices of onion, a handful of lettuce, and a slice of tomato.

Complete the Burger
