Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
- 2
Cook Fettuccine
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.
Making the Sauce
- 4
Melt Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter.
- 5
Add Cream and Garlic
Once the butter is melted, add 1 cup of heavy cream and 2 teaspoons of minced garlic. Stir well and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- 6
Add Cheese and Seasoning
Gradually whisk in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until it melts and the sauce is creamy. Season with 1 teaspoon of black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
Combining
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained fettuccine pasta to the sauce, tossing well to coat. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.

Garnish and Serve
Top the fettuccine alfredo with chopped fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve hot.
