Potato Preparation

Method

Potato Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Cut each potato into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick) to create fries.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and will make the fries crispier.

  3. 3

    Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Season Potatoes

In a bowl, toss the dried potato strips with salt and pepper to evenly coat them.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 6

    Fry Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of potato strips to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil.

  3. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Place the fried potatoes on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Repeat the frying process with the remaining batches of potatoes.

  4. 8

    Serve

Once all the fries are fried and drained, serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce or toppings.
