Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water. Use a vegetable peeler to peel the skin off the potatoes.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

Cut the peeled potatoes into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the water from the potatoes and pat them dry using paper towels. This step is crucial for crispy fries.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried potatoes from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
