Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and honey. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar until well combined.

Making the Dough

  1. 3

    Mix Ingredients

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with the olive oil. Stir until a rough dough forms.

  2. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Rising

  1. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

  2. 6

    Shape and Second Rise

After the first rise, punch down the dough to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise again for about 30-40 minutes.

Baking

  1. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 8

    Bake the Bread

Once the dough has risen, bake it in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  3. 9

    Cool

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
