Method

Preparing the Coffee Mixture

  1. 1

Brew 1 cup of espresso or strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the coffee and stir until dissolved.

Making the Mascarpone Filling

  1. 2

In a mixing bowl, whisk 4 egg yolks with 1 cup of granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

  2. 3

In a separate bowl, beat 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

  3. 4

Gently fold in 2 cups of mascarpone cheese and 1 tsp of vanilla extract into the egg mixture until well combined.

  4. 5

Finally, fold in the whipped cream gently to maintain the light and airy texture of the filling.

Assembling the Tiramisu

  1. 6

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long, and arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of a rectangular dish.

  2. 7

Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the layer of soaked ladyfingers.

  3. 8

Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and then top with the remaining mascarpone filling.

Chilling and Serving

  1. 9

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 10

Before serving, dust the top generously with cocoa powder and add dark chocolate shavings if desired.

  3. 11

Slice into squares, serve chilled, and enjoy your homemade tiramisu!
