Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Clean the Mushrooms

Gently clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Remove the stems and chop them finely. Set the caps aside.

Stuffing

  1. 3

    Cook the Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic and Mushroom Stems

Add the minced garlic and chopped mushroom stems to the skillet and sauté for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Mix in Cheese and Herbs

Remove the skillet from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in the cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Stuff the Mushroom Caps

Using a spoon, carefully fill each mushroom cap with the sausage and cheese mixture, packing it in lightly.

  2. 7

    Prepare Topping

In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and olive oil until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

  3. 8

    Add Topping

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the stuffed mushrooms.

Baking

  1. 9

    Bake the Mushrooms

Place the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the topping is golden brown.
