Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure that your bacon cooks evenly and the sugar caramelizes perfectly.
- 2
Prepare the Baking Sheet
Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup. Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet. This allows the fat to drain off as the bacon cooks.
- 3
Mix the Sugar and Spices
In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and sea salt. Stir until well mixed.
Cooking
- 4
Coat the Bacon
Take each slice of thick-cut bacon and coat it generously with the sugar and spice mixture. Make sure to cover both sides of the bacon for maximum flavor.
- 5
Arrange the Bacon on the Rack
Place the coated bacon strips on the wire rack in a single layer. Make sure the strips do not overlap to ensure even cooking.
- 6
Bake the Bacon
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-35 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sugar has caramelized. Keep an eye on it towards the end to prevent burning.
- 7
Cool the Bacon
Once done, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the bacon cool on the rack for about 5-10 minutes. The bacon will continue to harden as it cools.
