Potato Preparation

Method

Potato Preparation

1

Wash and Cut Potatoes

Begin by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into even-sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

2

Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl filled with water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

3

Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Frying Instructions

4

Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

5

Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding the pot. Fry for 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

6

Season the Fries

Once the fries are drained, immediately sprinkle them with salt and pepper to taste while they are still hot.

7

Serve

Serve the fries hot as a side dish with your favorite dipping sauces.
