Onion Tanglers

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the sweet onions and slice them thinly into rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Sparkling Water

Slowly pour in the cold sparkling water while whisking until the batter is smooth and well mixed. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip the separated onion rings into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Tanglers

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, to avoid overcrowding. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion tanglers from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate and Serve

Arrange the onion tanglers on a serving platter and serve immediately with a side of ranch dressing for dipping.
