Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Sticks

Start by cutting the mozzarella cheese sticks in half if desired for shorter sticks. Place them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour in the first, whisk the eggs in the second, and mix the breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in the third.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Take the chilled mozzarella sticks out of the freezer. First, coat each stick in flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs onto the cheese to ensure they adhere well.

  4. 4

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches, about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 5

    Cook the Sauce

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 6

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the pan. Stir well and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 7

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil and let the sauce simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
