Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Evenly divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat, then whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Remove from heat and stir in the milk and vanilla extract.

  3. 10

    Combine with Powdered Sugar

Gradually add the powdered sugar, whisking until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
