Method
Prepare the Burger Patty
Mix the Beef
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions (about 8 oz each). Shape each portion into a round patty that's slightly larger than the burger buns, as it will shrink while cooking. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up during cooking.
Cook the Burger
Flip and Add Cheese
Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if you desire a more well-done burger. Add cheese slices on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
Assemble the Burger
Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, you can toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly browned.
Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, pickles, onion slices, and your choice of condiments (ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise). Top with the other half of the bun.
