Method
Chicken Shawarma Directions
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine yogurt, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well to form a marinade. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
- 2
Cook the Chicken
Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off. Grill the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Alternatively, you can bake the chicken in the oven for about 25-30 minutes.
- 3
Rest and Slice
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. Slice the chicken into thin strips.
- 4
Assemble the Shawarma
Warm the pita bread. Place sliced chicken on each pita, top with fresh vegetables, and drizzle tahini sauce or garlic sauce on top.
- 5
Serve
Wrap the pita around the filling and enjoy your homemade chicken shawarma!
