Method
Bagel Directions
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the Bagels
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the middle to shape your bagels. Place them on a greased baking sheet.
- 4
Boil the Bagels
In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each bagel for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and place back on the baking sheet.
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 6
- 7
Cool and Serve
Remove the bagels from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or toasted.
