Rice and Seasoning

Method

Cooking Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the basmati rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This step removes excess starch and helps the rice cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, combine 4 cups of water, 1 tsp salt, turmeric powder, cinnamon stick, and bay leaf. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.

  3. 3

    Add the Rice

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the pot. Stir gently to combine.

  4. 4

    Cook the Rice

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  5. 5

    Fluff and Serve

Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Then, fluff the rice with a fork, drizzle with olive oil, and serve warm.
