Method

Prepare the Oatmeal

  1. 1

    Cook Steel-Cut Oats

In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add the salt and steel-cut oats. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and creamy. Remove from heat and let sit for a few minutes.

Make the Toasted Nut Crumble

  1. 2

    Toast Nuts

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the mixed nuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir frequently until the nuts are golden brown and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Apple Compote

  1. 3

    Cook Apples

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the diced apples, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Cook until the apples are soft and the mixture is syrupy, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 4

    Serve Oatmeal

Spoon the cooked oatmeal into bowls. Top with the apple compote, toasted nut crumble, and a sprinkle of julienned apples. Add more cinnamon if desired.
