Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Sear the Pork
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the pork shoulder with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper. Sear the pork on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- 2
Slow Cook the Pork
Transfer the seared pork to a slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar over the pork and cover. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
Honey BBQ Sauce Preparation
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- 4
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
Fried Pickles Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Breading
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, and salt. In another bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk until well combined.
- 6
Bread the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice in the buttermilk mixture, then coat with the flour mixture. Ensure they are fully coated.
- 7
Sandwich Assembly
- 8
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the honey BBQ sauce.
- 9
- 10
Assemble the Sandwiches
Place a generous amount of the pulled pork on the bottom half of each toasted hoagie roll. Top with fried pickles and close the sandwich.
