Cheese Curds
Method
Preparation
Prepare the Cheese Curds
Place the fresh cheese curds in a bowl and set aside.
Set Up Breading Station
In a shallow dish, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In another shallow dish, pour the buttermilk. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
Breading
Coat the Cheese Curds
Take a cheese curd and dip it in the flour mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Then, dip it into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the panko breadcrumbs until fully coated. Repeat for all cheese curds.
Frying
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Curds
Carefully add the breaded cheese curds to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried cheese curds to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
