Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients needed for the mozzarella sticks.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and bread crumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick in the flour, making sure to coat it fully. Then, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the stick in the seasoned bread crumbs until fully coated. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Freeze the Cheese Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add a few frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pot. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining sticks.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sauce Base

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 8

    Cook the Tomatoes

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the pan. Stir well to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the mixture to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 10

    Add Fresh Basil

Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil leaves and cook for another 2 minutes.
